5 Ultimate Guide to Writing Your Own Wedding Vows

Are you getting married and have no idea how to write your wedding vow? Sit down, read and start writing now!

Brides may be too caught up on focusing on what they are going to wear, how they are going to look on their wedding day and tends to forget about their wedding vowsVows are one of the highlights of weddings. They said having an extra emotion wedding vows leaves a remarkable wedding. Few weeks before your big day, find a relaxing place and sit down. Start writing down thoughts that hit you - but what is the right formula for writing vows?

Yes. You can sound “cheesy”, you can be frank too. We always want the perfect balance on how to say it. Few of us may do not know how to let out our feelings about someone whom we have known for how many years. It was easy when it would be just the two of you. But now, you would be having an audience, and everybody wants to hear what you are about to say! The big question is how do we condense our complete love story in just a span of 5 minutes, right? We might not expect it, after the wedding, saying the vows would be your favorite and most unforgettable part of your wedding day.

Here are the 5 tips on how to write your own wedding vows.

1.  Reminisce.
Travel again on those days that you have first met your partner, that very first day you have started feeling butterflies and get nervous on your very first date. Remember every important date nights and adventures you had that made you love your partner more. List down those memories. Just the highlights. The important note here is that  remember all the “firsts” you’ve made together before or after when you become a couple. Write it all down, including the feelings you have felt that day.

This would help you remember those magical moments. You can start your vows by telling those “firsts” you had with your partner and putting those emotions back on your wedding day. Start your vows with your favorite memories, how you’ve met and what you felt that day, tell your short love story and let your audience know of your brief love story.

2.  Confession.
When you are done with writing down the memories, it is time, to tell the truth. Time for revelations. Write down honest things on why you fell in love with your partner and how that love grew. Write down those things that you like about your partner (you can also put those things you hate about him too but in a funny way). This would be the part that you can get emotional and can put a little bit of humor also. You can start with the petty things you hated about him and then put a little joke on it for a transition. By starting on telling the things you have hated about him leaves an impression that you have love and accepted him even on his very worst.

3.  State your promises. In this phase of writing wedding vows, you now tell everyone what you would want to keep and what are you looking forward to in the next chapter of your lives as a married couple. Tell your dreams to everyone and say those promises that you want to keep until you get old together. Ensure that by stating your promises, your emotions would overpower than your words. Avoid cliche promises. Think of something that binds you from the beginning of the relationship. Something that you think would never fade between the two of you.

4. Be genuine.
Let your feelings out. Tell your partner that your feelings will not change but will even grow deeper as you spend your life together.  Love has no language. You can say what you feel in whatever form or whatever language you want to. Put jokes or humor to ease the heavy feelings. Put in your vows how excited are you to build a new family with your partner and to be as one. Also, you can put here how thankful you are for some people who helped your relationship throughout the highs and lows. Mention someone close to the both of you and someone who knows both of you too well.

5. Wrap it up.
In the last part, you should be done telling jokes already. Keep in mind that you don't want the wedding to be so emotional. It should not sound like a goodbye, but it should be something like a welcome to` a new phase of life as a new married couple. Do not forget to thank God, you being together is destined and plotted before you were even born. Love is a gift from God and it should be celebrated on your wedding day. End your vow with a bible verse and an unending expression of love, “I love you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you”.
There will never be a perfect formula for a perfect wedding vow. Why? Because there will never be a perfect formula for love. Wedding vows are a celebration of new love and a journey. One of the reasons why we devote so much time writing it. Defining your love before saying I Do’s will be one of the most exciting part for the both of you. The secret for an awesome wedding vow would be to let your heart out, enjoy and trust your heart on the process.
